Description

The 12 string bass was invented in the later half of the 1970’s by Cheap Trick bassist Tom Peterson together with Hamer guitars. They have been used on several hits over the years including Pearl Jam’s ‘Jeremy’, Metallica’s ‘Wherever I May Roam’, King’s X “I Pretend”, just to name a few.

Musicvox Space Cadet 12 String Bass (Rare)

This is a very rare, limited edition Musicvox Cadet 12 Bass with a 4×3 string setup. The bass was constructed in 2001, and is 1 of only 10 produced in the seafoam green color. (Only 9 actually ever made it into the hands of players because one was accidentally destroyed during shipping.) The only difference between this bass and the other 1st Series Space Cadets is the color. However, the seafoam green model sold at twice the price of the 1st Series. $2000 in 2001!

This Musicvox Cadet 12 has been in climate-controlled storage the last eight years and is in great cosmetic condition, with plastic still on the battery cover. No buckle rash. Little or no fret wear. Plays great and sounds amazing.

The Musicvox Cadet 12 features a Mahogany body, a Maple neck and a Rosewood fingerboard. The bass sports dual humbucker outputs, one active and one passive, offering a dual signal stereo output. This means that the Space Cadet 12 can be played through two amps simultaneously. Very cool!

The Cadet 12 also features a brass nut and the bass is strung with 4 courses of 3 strings, tuned in octaves, in this order : eeE , aaA , ddD , ggG . But, I’ve read that many have used all sorts of tunings on these basses. The tuners on the first series basses have the locking mechanisms on top of the tuner posts. I find the bass to sound slightly more ‘chimey’ than other 12-strings I’ve played, which gives it a little more upper end clarity to my ears.

I am including the original damaged but functional hardshell case to protect it during shipping. If you don’t care about looks, it’ll work just fine. If you need one that looks pretty you’ll have to seek out another case. Just remember that the bass itself is in excellent condition, as can be seen in the pictures.
