Baldwin / Burns Double Six 12-String Guitar (1966)

This is a fine example of a rarely seen vintage guitar inspired by Hank Marvin, surf guitar legend for The Shadows. This is the Baldwin/Burns Double Six, 12 String Solid Body Guitar, made in England c.1966 and finished in green sunburst.

This superb Double Six guitar is in excellent operating and cosmetic condition, with only moderate evidence of prior use. There are a number of minor surface nicks, dings, marks, etc. (see photos), but there is very little or no visible fret wear, and only a minor patina on the hardware. The guitar has received a recent professional setup, and with the zero fret, plays like a dream up and down the fingerboard.

It is beautifully balanced whether played while seated or standing, and it looks, sounds, and plays wonderfully well!

This Vintage 12-String Guitar features an offset double cutaway Alder body, bolt-on steel reinforced adjustable Flamed Maple neck with micro-angle adjustment screw, a 21 fret fully-bound Rosewood fingerboard (with zero fret) and inlaid white dot position markers, a 25 1/2″ Scale (from the zero fret to the bridge saddle) and an 11 5/16″ wide nut.

The Maple headstock has 6 per-side nickel tuners with the words “Double Six” embossed at the top. The fixed bridge has a compensated saddle with adjustable height. There is a top load stop tailpiece with cover, a 3-piece 3-layer black pickguard with “Baldwin” engraved on the lower bout, as well as chrome hardware.

The electronics package features 3 diagonal Burns “Tri-Sonic” single coil pickups, controlled by a rotary master volume control, 2 rotary tone controls (one for the neck and one for the middle pickups), and a 3-way toggle pickup selector switch. The switch allows one pickup to be accessed for each of the 3 positions, with the position for the bridge pickup allowing it to scream straight through without a tone control. Simple and elegant!

The instrument weighs in at 10.8 pounds, providing a stable platform and excellent sustain.

The guitar comes well-protected in its included original rectangular blue plush lined black hardshell case!
