Gibson ES-175 Steve Howe Signature (2006)

This is a rare, 2006 Gibson Steve Howe ES-175 hollow body archtop guitar in excellent, very lightly played condition. Body, neck, fretboard, frets, electronics, and everything else are in first class shape. It features all original parts and comes with the original case. Serial #02163733 and the sticker inside is signed by Steve Howe.

Since its introduction in 1949, the Gibson ES175 has been known as the ‘Workhorse of Modern Jazz’ guitar. It has been played by countless legendary guitarists including Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Pat Metheny, just to name a few.

Starting in the late 60s, however, people like Steve Howe from Yes showed that the ES-175 was unique among hollow bodies for its sonic versatility as well as its ability to stand up to the crunch and volume of modern rock.

This ES-175 Steve Howe Signature guitar is a tribute to that great musician and is one of the most luxurious archtop hollow body guitars that Gibson ever produced. It features a fully hollow single-cut Maple body in a vintage Sunburst gloss finish with a creme binding, a solid Mahogany neck topped with a 21-fret Rosewood fretboard and the distinctive double-parallelogram inlays.

The Steve Howe Signature model features a 16-inch body with a Florentine cutaway and a 24 3/4-inch scale length, with a nut width of 1 11/16”. It has a triple bound top, a bound back, and vintage toned binding. It also has a wide-beveled 5-ply pickguard and gold barrel knobs. The hardware is 100% original nickel and includes a compensated tune-o-matic bridge with a stoptail bar. It also features a fantastic pair of ’57 Classic Gibson humbucker pickups and electronics.

I can go on and on about how special this guitar is, but let me sum it up like this:

This is a Gibson classic. The guitar is in gorgeous condition with a gleaming classic sunburst finish. With vintage style medium ’60’s frets on a gentle D profile neck, the fingerboard is utterly effortless to play. The 24 3/4″ scale is fast and nimble, the ’57 Classic humbuckers are fat and sweet, and the 16″ body is easy to cradle and substantially resistant to feedback.

This is an incredibly versatile guitar. It is a rock guitar. It is a jazz and blues guitar. You can play anything from Starship Trooper to Stella by Starlight. This model is no longer made. And there are even fewer out there in this kind of condition. So, you may not want to wait too long on this one.
